The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Anime and Novel)

This will be brief, as I have not finished either. For the anime, I have watched up to episode 4; the novel, up to volume 3.

The novel first, because I have been mainly focusing on the novel. The novel is in short spectacular. Much expected being the origin of the anime series; I am always more appreciative of the novel that a movie is based off of and would refuse to watch the movie, usually without reading the book first. Hence, this means I don't watch a lot of good movies like Lord of the Rings, but then again, I don't watch a lot of movies, period. Nevertheless, the Haruhi novel has the anime "essence" in it which I am happy with; it's not just another "book" to read but actually turns out really well.

Now. The anime.

The anime's random "lets do this story today!" REALLY pisses me off... because anyone who is watching Haruhi casually without reading the novels would get completely lost by the 4th episode. Scratch that, they would have no clue what's going on in the first episode, but at least the first episode was funny. But the forth episode, they suddenly skip to volume three, and not only that, the transfer character appears WITHOUT ANY INTRODUCTION AT ALL. Episode 3 ends on the fact that Yuki is an alien and doesn't expand, leaving many people (that don't read the novel) most likely baffled at the fact that they were expecting more info on the next episode, but suddenly turn to this baseball game, at which the Haruhi characters began spewing random "avatar" and "dimension" talk that anyone who hasn't read the novel would have seriously been lost by now.

Other than the randomness which absolutely sucks, everything else in the anime is awesome. They follow the script pretty well when they're not jumping around in stories, the animation and artwork are cute as usual. Mikuru is just as moe, although, like a friend told me, her screams for help are kind of strange sounding, sort of not realistic... as least she's drawn cutely...Still need to try to imitate haruhi dance.

Kyon's sister making a home run = win.
