EUREKA!!!

I FIGURED OUT WHY JAPANESE ARE SO LENIENT ON THEIR COPYRIGHT POLICIES!!! (though I'm sure many people figured it out before)

After wondering about fansubs and watching NHK, it occurred to me. Presumably, if Japanese Otakus are portrayed accurately in NHK (which, I'm pretty sure, is an accurate portrayal of otakus), people in japan typically "buy what they see" without second thought. If that's the case, there wouldn't be any need for businesses to make their copyright policies so strict; after all, if they're already buying a lot merchandise for the heck of it, what's there to worry about the free stuff? In America, it seems rather different. People are more cautious as to what they want to buy, always thinking "is it worth it right now" or "do I have enough money", etc... (well, I am, anyway) Because of that, you don't see "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" or "Charmed" dolls flying off the shelves in toy stores... most people don't find it that useful. Americans aren't fanboyish enough to make the companies feel secure about their profits, so the companies in turn try to enforce strict copyright laws. Interesting... Interesting indeed. Apparently at the moment I cannot see which method is better, whether squandering all your money for the sake of fandom or being miserly and greedy and finding the cheapest way to get something you want... Well, probably doesn't matter.
